Manitou launches telehandler lines
By Euan Youdale
Manitou has launched a range of new telehandlers, including a pair of compact MT units, the new Vision and Vision Plus versions of its MRT rotating telehandlers and the ultra lightweight ULM series. The company also promises to make its entire telehandler range available with full electric or hybrid-powered options
The new MT compact range consists of two models, offering 7m and 9m working heights. Designed for particularly narrow areas such paths, gates and garage doors, the models are 2m wide x 2m high, yet can still reach the third floor of a building using the 9m model.
Its updated fork head system means the forks can be folded in for transport, bringing the machine length down to 4.67m. The 9m model weighs in at less than 3 tonnes, which also aids transport. In addition they offer 35cm ground clearance and 3.3m turning radius, plus hydrostatic transmission.
The MT units also boast a new user-friendly dashboard, with notifiCATions in 22 languages. A new joystick sensor system automatically stops risky behaviour and alerts the site manager if the machine is being driven with the boom up or without the seatbelt fastened. There is also a new clean oil solution that monitors the hydraulic system.
An additional stop/start solution automatically stops the engine when not in use and restarts it when the operator touches the joystick.
Another launch from Manitou is the Ultra Light Manitou (ULM) range of very compact telehandlers that can be towed on a standard trailer behind a car, making them useful for DIY, for example.
The 27,000kg machines are 1.4m wide and 1.9m high, which makes them the world’s smallest telehandlers, claims Manitou. The ULMs will offer four wheel drive and oscillating rear axles, and will be compatible with all Manitou attachments once testing has been completed.
Manitou’s new MRT Vision and Vision+ range provides a new look machine with a number of updated features. The Vision range completly replaces the previous MRT models to meet Stage V emission standards.
The Vision series offers 14 models with heights ranging from 16m to 25m, for a load capacity of up to 4.5 tonnes. It expands the previous MRT offering in this working height area by two models: the MRT 1645 and MRT 1845.
The highest capacities are grouped together in the Vision+ range, which features 12 new models, including six more models than the MRT range’s previous offering: the MRT 2260, MRT 2660, MRT 3570, MRT 2570 and MRT 3060. Lifting heights range from 22m to 35m and offer a much improved capacity of up to 7 tonnes.
The cab has been designed to offer full access on both sides and direct access to the ladder. In addition, there are no roof bars on the Vision Plus versions, adding to the improved visibility. The models also add a larger dashboard with a bigger touchscreen.
According to Manitou the uprated models, which range up to 25m lifting heights and up to 7 tonnes lifting capacities, can offer up to 100% more capacity at full height than the pre-existing MRT range, and 20% more capacity at maximum outreach. The weight of the MRTs have been reduced by up to 5%, while increasing lift capabilities by up to 15%.
Travel speed of the updated series is 40km/h and fuel consumption is reduced by 10%. The company says the new range also offers 30% faster speed of movement.
Manitou said it is also planning to launch hybrid and electric versions of its full range of telehandlers as part of its recently announced 2025 strategic roadmap, which includes a greater focus on sustainability and a move towards zero emission worksites. The plans also include a move into hydrogen.
More information on all these products will be announced soon.
